De.icio.us

Set up my del.icio.us favorites, but for some reason the button won't install into my computer at home. I'll have to ask Jill about that, since I own a Mac, not a Windows clone.

Anyhow, I only set up a few so far. Lots of LoLs and some blogs I read.

Brain hurts, but... WorldCat

I searched on Worldcat for Nalini Singh's "Slave to Sensation". Amazingly enough, our own library has a copy! Who'da thunk it? I love the way WorldCat puts all the information about a title at your fingertips. This will make it a lot easier to find books for patrons through ILL... no more resorting to Amazon.com for me! Worldcat is definitely the way to go!

Library Thing

I started putting up my personal library on LibraryThing. This is going to take a while... a long while.

Technology

I think the technology available today is great. What other time in history have you been able to surf the web, download music or have a conversation with someone--all when you are out in the middle of nowhere-- on your cellphone?

It wasn't that long ago that I didn't have a phone. I didn't see the need for one. I don't get that many phone calls, nor do I make them, so having a cell phone was not a big priority for me.

It still isn't, actually. I have one, but it generally stays in my purse, turned off while I am driving. The one time I did have my phone on while I was driving, I kept getting calls while I was on my way to the Library Staff Development Day from someone who kept telling me to stop calling him! I kept telling him I was not the one making the calls, and I had to turn my phone off so he would stop calling and nearly making me have an accident on the roads. The grating ring of my cell phone would send shivers up my spine, and I value being able to drive well and not be distracted by my blasted cell phone.

I keep it only for emergencies, and that is the primary reason why I got it. Once, I was trapped in my car going to a program in another branch by a bad accident. I used it to tell people I would be delayed. And that's still my primary use for it... or to check what my Mom and Dad need and/or want at the grocery store/pharmacy/Wal-Mart.

I don't know if this makes me anti-tech or just sensible.

I also loveloveloveloveLOVE my computer. Did I mention I have a Macintosh Pro Intel Desktop? 3 GB processor, 750 Gigs Hard Drive Space, all enough to play my favorite games, surf the internet with Comcast, blog and do just about anything else I want to do.

My biggest complaint? I no longer have as much time for reading with my new Comcast High Speed Modem. I used to get a fair bit of reading done while waiting for things to download to my computer (I used to have dial-up... horrors!), but now that the thrill has worn off a bit, I get finished faster and get off the computer to read. It's all good.

Bloglines fixed

I found out what I was doing wrong with Bloglines, and how to search for the feeds I want. I signed up for 20 today, including the New York Daily News, OCL Webthings, and Unshelved, a comic about people who work in the library and the people who patronize the library. It's funny as heck and I think I recognize some of my co-workers (and co-irkers ;)).

I also added a number of webcomics and blogs that I love to read, like Retail Hell Underground, icanhascheezburger.com, Cute Overload, and Crummy Church Signs.

RSS Feeds

Hmm... set up bloglines right now, and am having a bit of trouble getting all the blogs I read to show up. I'll have to ask Jill about this tomorrow... um, today.

In-branch Picture

I used our library's digital camera to take a picture of our in-house computer that shows off programs at our branch. It was fun playing "roving reporter" with the camera and it took more time to take the picture than to upload it to flickr.

Anyhow, here's the photo. Enjoy!

Flickr Photos Done

Well, I finally got around to uploading the photos from Otakon 2007 into Flickr, as well as pictures I had taken of the Kimonos that I own, and photos of my Cat, Cleo. I was rather disappointed that free users can only create 3 sets, but I can deal. Titling, labelling and describing them took the most time, but I got my way through it via copy and paste for the first and the last. Of course, it might help if I didn't upload 80+ photos at once next time!

Aaaanyhow, here's a link to my photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/24828110@N03/?saved=1

Flickr

I started a flickr account today, and plan to upload some photos that I took at last Year's Otakon. I Don't know if I'll be able to go this year, what with my mom being pretty much confined to a wheelchair, but we'll see. I sure hope I get to go.

Webthings 2.0 Challenge

This is the blog I will be using for my library's webthings 2.0 Challenge. Huzzah! And onwards we go!
